Melukote is in Pandavapura taluk of Mandya district. It is one of important sacred places in Karnataka. Melukote is also known as Tirunarayanapura and Yadugiri. It is about 51km from Mysore.
In the 12th century, Srivaishnava saint Sri Ramanujacharya of Tamil Nadu came to Melukote and stayed there there for 12 years. Thus it has become an important center for Srivaishnava sect.
Important Temples of Melukote:
- Cheluvanarayana swamy Temple: It is the main temple of Melukote. This temple is dedicated to Lord Cheluva Narayana swamy or Thirunarayana.
- Yoga Narasimhaswamy Temple: This temple is dedicated to Lord Yoga Narasimhaswamy. It is built on the top of the hill.
